[11th CW] THE SEA

This year's topic for our eleventh cultural week is once again:

THE SEA

As the pandemic made it impossible to celebrate last year's cultural week, we're back thinking about things we can work on. Certainly we'll recover the work we had already done for last year.

It's a very broad subject matter to work on, as usual we're open to suggestions on things we can do about it from and in English.

English is a language which from an island has travelled throughout the world and over the wide seas and oceans. Its origins are in a land surrounded by the sea, and of course, it's not only Britain, Ireland, Australia and even the States have great connections with the sea. So hopefully we will be able to come up with many ideas...

Let's brainstorm ideas... storms are also connected with the sea...

LEWIS CAPALDI: "SOMEONE YOU LOVED"

 

 Lewis Marc Capaldi (born 7 October 1996) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician. "Someone You Loved" is a song recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi. It was released as a download on 8 November 2018. The song was written by Capaldi, Samuel Romans, and its producers Thomas Barnes, Peter Kelleher and Benjamin Kohn. It  was a commercial success, peaking at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The song became Capaldi's first number one single and spent seven consecutive weeks atop of the chart. It also peaked at number one on the Irish Singles Chart in March 2019.

There are two music videos to accompany "Someone You Loved".

The first music video was released on 8 February 2019, starring actor Peter Capaldi, who is Lewis Capaldi's second cousin once removed. It was directed by filmmaker Phil Beastall. Filming took place in Buxton in late January 2019.The video was made in partnership with charity organisation Live Life Give Life in order to raise awareness for the issue of organ donation. It contains a message of loss and hope, telling a story of a husband who is trying to cope with the death of his wife. She became the heart donor for the young mother of another family, saving her life. Eventually the two families are brought together and the main character knows that his wife's heart continues to live on.

The official video, featuring the singer was released on 29 August 2019. Here, Capaldi wanders the streets, following his lost love as his friends and strangers try to stop him from chasing after her.

Capaldi said: “For me the video is about the people we surround ourselves with that have the strength when we don’t and help us continue to make the right decisions in moments of fear or hardship. In the moment we often choose to ignore friends and family, thinking our judgement is better, but of course in hindsight when you’re in that headspace it’s almost impossible to make the right decisions.”

COVID-19 stole our hugs and kisses but it couldn't steal our ability to work together against this pandemic.

Dancing to the same beat, the IES Plurilingüe Rafael Dieste (A Coruña) and the Granton Middle & High School (Wisconsin), want to send a message of hope in the fight against COVID-19.

Thanks to students, teachers, administration and service staff for taking part in the making of this video.

"CASABLANCA" TRAILER

 

Casablanca is a 1942 American wartime romantic drama film directed by Michael Curtiz, and starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Filmed and set during World War II, it focuses on an American expatriate (Bogart) who must choose between his love for a woman (Bergman) and helping her and her husband (Henreid), a Czech resistance leader, escape from the city of Casablanca to continue his fight against the Germans. The screenplay is based on Everybody Comes to Rick's, an unproduced stage play.
