[14th CW] PIALE PROGRAMME: A MULTICULTURAL EXPERIENCE IN CANADA

This week "Rafael Dieste" celebrated its fourteenth cultural week on the topic of "FUSION CULTURE". Our teachers Isabel Viña Vilas, from the English department and Leticia Ogando López, from Physical Education, both talked to the students of 3rd and 4th ESO and the teaching staff about their experience of multiculturalism in Canada, as participants in the PIALE programme. The differences in both educational systems were also discussed and the students showed great interest in those aspects that could be transferred to our school.

"HOME ALONE" (December 2023)

Before the Christmas holidays, we'll be watching a part of a film in English with English subtitles in the last classes. The film we'll be watching is "HOME ALONE". Here's a summary of the plot and the video trailer.

"HOME ALONE" is the story of an 8-year-old bot called Kevin. He's the youngest of five and is frequently bullied by his older brothers and sisters. After some problems between Kevin and his family, he wishes for a new family when his mother punishes him for what he considers unjustified reasons. His mother warns him to be careful with what he wishes for. The next day he wakes up to discover he's the only one left in the family home. Kevin thinks his wish has come true and that he's finally alone without anybody of his family around. Actually, he was left back home by mistake. All his family are on their way to Paris on a family Christmas holiday. While his parents realize their mistake and want to go back to the US, a pair of thieves try to rob the family house and Kevin has to defend it. His advneture begins...

BACK FROM THE 'ENGLISH WEEK' AT OS PEARES

Today the 25 students from 'Rafael Dieste' have already come back from their lingustic immersion "English Week" at Os Peares.

During their last day yesterday, they presented the projects they had been working on throughout the week on the topic of the environment and the 3R (reduce, reuse & recycle).

The last thing we've got to say is congratulate all the students that have taken part in this activity for their good attitude and involvement during the whole week and our thanks to the attending teacher (Leticia Ogando) and the staff at the residence.

25 'RAFAEL DIESTE' STUDENTS OFF TO AN 'ENGLISH WEEK' AT OS PEARES & ENJOYING IT

Our school has been selected to take part in the "ENGLISH WEEK", a language immersion activity for 3rd ESO students to practice and improve their oral skills in English with the help of native teachers.

The activity organized by the Consellería de Educación, takes place between the 10th and the 16th of November at the residential area in Os Peares (Ourense). 25 of our 3rd ESO students will be  off today, accompanied by one of our Physical Education teachers, Leticia Ogando.

Update Wednesday 13th: today we've received the photo above in which we can see our 25 students enjoying the "English Week" at Os Peares.

A THEATRE PLAY AT OUR SCHOOL TODAY:

"CALL ME" is a play by Omis Productions which will be performed today at 12:30h at our assembly hall. The show will be seen by students of 3rd, 4th ESO and 1st BAC from our school and also IES "Agra do Orzán".

 Here's the synopsis of the play:

James and Ashley have been friends for a long time, but James has begun to have feelings for Ashley. He is in love with her.

Now James has to go on a business trip, but he can't leave the uncertainty of not knowing if she also loves him. So before telling Ashley his news, he prepares her by giving her a present: the latest mobile telephone model: an iphone fun-phone four. What James isn't expecting is that his present will become an object of miscommunication that prevents him from being able to talk to her. Ashley is addicted to the telephone.

Finally, James has to go before he misses his train. Will he ever be able to talk to her?

ACTION!: A THEATRE PLAY IN ENGLISH AT OUR SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY, 25th APRIL @ 11:20h Assembly Hall

This Wednesday, we'll receive the actors of Face2Face Theatre company, who will perform a play for us called: "ACTION!".

The play shows the history of cinema. It's a visual and cinematographic show, where visual and verbal  humour and the evocative power of music from films are the tools to represent and parody the most famous film scenes. The actors create the magic of movies by multiplying countless characters and causing many funny and surreal situations that make us get into famous action, love, drama or suspense movie scenes that everybody remembers.

The play will be at 11:20 at our assembly hall.

SONGS FROM "AQUARIUS"

On Wednesday, 26th January, 3rd and 4th year ESO students will attend a musical-lecture play at our assembly hall. Its name is "AQUARIUS". Rupert Marshall, anthropologist, musician and director of Firewalk Theatre will perform his musical-lecture and he will check on old rock hits from the 50s and 60s and their meaning within the social context in which they were successful. On this blog we're going to try to post as many of the songs which appear on the play as we can. We are posting the audios with the lyrics, so you can follow and understand them and also practice listening as usual. Here are the ones we've found:
