ClickOnEnglish 17th ANNIVERSARY

Another celebration, our seventeenth anniversary of this blog. Another course has already just started and posts will still be coming up, at least once a month... or whenever there's something interesting and worth being published throughout the whole year. And you can always search back in the archive to find interesting topics and what you're looking for related to learning and practicing English...

*DISCLAIMER:
With each passing year spent away from school, the connection gradually fades; consequently, there will be each time fewer references to activities taking place there, as there is no access to images other than those already appearing on the school's social media channels or the complete context in which they are held.

PISA 2025 RESULTS SHOW STUDENTS' LEVEL DECLINING

The latest OECDPISA results, released today, show that student performance has declined across all three core subjects over the past decade.

Across OECD countries between 2015 and 2025:
➡️
Reading scores fell by 28 points, the steepest decline of the three subjects.
➡️
Mathematics scores dropped by 22 points, equivalent to just over one year of learning.
➡️
Science proved more resilient, with scores declining by 7 points.
The results underline the importance of strengthening the knowledge and skills students need for the future. Strong foundations in reading, mathematics and science enable students to think, learn and use AI effectively.

NEW ACCURATE-SIZED WORLD MAP APPROVED BY THE UN

Info by BBC:

The UN General Assembly has voted to replace the traditional world map with one that more accurately reflects the size of Africa.

The "Correct the Map" resolution, sponsored by Togo and backed by African Union (AU) members, passed with the support of 164 nations, including France and the UK. The US was the only nation to vote against it - while there were six abstentions.

The UN vote is non-binding but will see changes to the maps used by institutions around the world.

The Mercator map, which has been in common use since the 16th Century, has come in for criticism as it shows Africa as being of similar in size to Greenland, even though it is actually 14 times larger.

The Mercator map was designed in 1569 by the Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator to help European explorers navigate across the world.

The distortion of his map is a result of the fact that it is impossible to accurately represent the surface of a globe on a two-dimensional chart.
