WELSH SINGER BONNIE TYLER DIES

Finally, she didn't manage to get through her recovery successfully and unfortunately Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75. She had been in induced coma at a Portuguese hospital, where she lived, after undergoing an intestinal surgery last May.  These official statements were on her webpage, following her health issues:

"[6/May/26] We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery. The surgery went well and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.

[Update 8/May/26] Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. 

[Update 12/May/26] As of this morning Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery.

[Update 15/June/26] Bonnie is no longer in coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time."  

Less than a year ago, on August 2nd 2025, the last time she sang in Coruña .The singer had a new record and was about to start a tour this summer right into 2027.

 It's a heartache, RIP.

UK CULTURE CLASS BY DAMIEN SHEEHY FOR 1ºBAC STUDENTS

This morning, 1st BAC students had the opportunity to listen to the Irishman, from Dublin, Damien Sheehy, who, courtesy of Burlington Publishers, visited our school and gave a cultural talk about the United Kingdom.

A speech about: 

- the British flag ("The Union Jack"), (Info about this is also in this blog: HERE1)

- the difference between Northern Ireland, part of the UK, and the Republic of Ireland, (Info about this is also in this blog:  HERE2).

- why British drive on the left, which countries do so and the reason why. (Info about this is also in this blog:  HERE3).

The speech came together with some quiz questions for the audience to answer:

1- Which country (out of 4 given) doesn't drive on the left? 

Answered correctly by Martin Golán (B1ºB), who took the help of 50%. The answer was Iceland.

2- What's the most forgotten object on the London tube?

Answered correctly by Victoria Orrico (B1ºC) & Alejandro Fernández (B1ºB), who took the help of the phone call to Damien's mum. The answer being the mobile phone, the object that is mostly lost on the tube.

3- Where is Welsh mostly spoken outside the UK?

Question for Román Alemparte (B1ºA), who had the help of the rest of the audience, but the answer was really unexpected: Patagonia in Argentina. So they didn't answer it correctly.

Today's is Saint David, patron of Wales and their National Day, too. It's celebrated on the day St. David or Dewi Sant died on 589 AD. To mark this day, Welsh people around the world usually wear their national symbols:

While we wait to start off the new school year, let's begin with a funny curiosity. The title of this post is nothing strange... It's not exactly English, but Welsh. It's the village with the longest name in Britain and in the whole world with 51 letters (considering ch and ll as digraphs in Welsh, so single letters).
