STAR WARS DAY: MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

Commenting on a curiosity today. Do you know what day it is?

It's May, 4th: "Star Wars Day"

And do you know why it's so? Well, it has a curious explanation: it's a pun or a play on words, with one of the famous mythical punch-line quotes from the films, which has become a worldwide catchphrase:

"MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!"

which phonetically sounds similar to another sentence:

"MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!"

This second sentence was used on the exact day in 1979 as a headline in a British newspaper to congratulate Margaret Thatcher for having won the election and having become the first woman Prime Minister in the country.

Since 2008, it has become the day to pay tribute to George Lucas' film saga by its millions of fans and it's widely celebrated throughout the social networks and media.

HARRY'S FINGER WAS BITTEN BY LITTLE CHARLIE A DECADE AGO!

Between these two photos above, 10 years have passed. A few weeks ago, our conversation assistant this course, Laura, showed in 1st BAC classes the video of little Charlie and his brother Harry as an activity to practice the passive: Harry's finger was bitten by his smaller brother Harry. 

This week we've learnt the story behind this viral video. You can get the complete story watching this video below, which was posted on YouTube in 2015, saying that the original one was 8 years old. That means that it's 10 years, now. In the video you'll hear why their parents posted it onto YouTube and how many viewers have watched it in all this time. You'll be surprised!

FUN is a noun or an adjective, = when you enjoy yourself or have a good time.
FUNNY is an adjective. = a situation, person or thing that makes you laugh.

During the last years Google has given the world the gift of the Santa Tracker.  In the days leading up to Christmas Eve the website gives children of all ages fun activities that range from printable Christmas tree ornaments, interactive games, geography quizzes and even lessons oncoding.

ADELE'S CARPOOL KARAOKE WITH JAMES CORDEN

Some fun for the Sunday. Here's a video with the carpool* karaoke British TV presenter, James Corden, set up in his car with Adele for his TV programme, while driving around London. They chatted and sang (not only her songs) and she even rapped!. They're really had a great time. Have a look...

A GUIDE TO BRITISH CULTURE BY STEPHEN FRY

British actor Stephen Fry  stars in a three minute video explaining the essence of British culture to visitors arriving to the UK via London's Heathrow airport. The film shot inside a pub features the actor talking about British cultural features and mentions important British attractions. You can watch it here with subtitles. The video was released last Thursday on Heathrow's free Wi-Fi page.

HELLO, IT'S MISS PEGGY.

 (The Muppets' Miss Peggy covers Adele's "HELLO")

The Muppets' character Miss Peggy covers Adele's hit "HELLO" doing her own video version of the song. As you might all know Miss Peggy broke up with Kermitt, the Frog, in September last year, after nearly a 40-year relationship. Now Peggy uses Adele's song to call back on Kermitt. Very funny!

While we wait to start off the new school year, let's begin with a funny curiosity. The title of this post is nothing strange... It's not exactly English, but Welsh. It's the village with the longest name in Britain and in the whole world with 51 letters (considering ch and ll as digraphs in Welsh, so single letters). You can see in the photos above, the name and where the village is on the map.
