ADDICTED TO THE MOBILE?

A new form of addiction has appeared in the last decade with the development of technologies and the great variety of mobile phones available: it's the mobile phone addiction. It's a widespread problem but especially among the younger generations.
Youngsters are using their mobile phones when they're bored, tired, lazy, angry or lonely...

Symptoms:

- Constant use of the mobile phone (even in situations which aren't considered acceptable).

- Loss of the sense of time while surfing online.

- Prefer spending time with the mobile phone than with family & friends.

- Feeling restless when the mobile phone can't be used.

- Wishing to have the latest model in the market or apps.

Physical side-effects:

- Finger, neck and back tension.

- Itchy eyes.

- Insomnia.

- Weight & diet changes.

- Fatigue.

- Distracted attention, difficulties to focus.

- Problem and study failures.

- Loss of interest in hobbies, sports and outdoor activities, which implies social loneliness, loss of friends and isolation.

About to start next Monday our 6th Cultural Week devoted to THE HISTORY OF HANDWRITING, we're showing a funny video of how young kids react to what is now an "ancient" machine already: THE TYPEWRITER.  
The typewriter was the stage between handwriting and typing as we do now on computers or smartphones. Have a look at this video and see how something not so old for many of us is like a dinosaur for youngest ones.

GOOGLE'S 15th BIRTHDAY

Today's Google's fifteenth birthday. September marks 15 years since graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin set up a small web crawler from a garage in Silicon Valley, which went onto become the world's biggest search engine.

The site was originally called BackRub, but was changed in 1997 to Google - a misspelling of the word googol which is a term for the number one followed by one hundred zeros.

There is a little confusion around when Google's official birthday is, but reports claim papers to incorporate the company were filed on September 4 1998. The company became incorporated three days later and the domain was registered on September 15.

Google, however, now officially celebrates the event with a Google Doodle on September 27. 

The site is now the world's number one search engine and its name has become so synonymous with searching, it is now used as a verb in its own right in trhe English language.
