ClickOnEnglish 13th ANNIVERSARY

 This year, for the first time, we celebrate the blog's anniversary having started the classes already. We celebrate its 13th birthday, having begun on a 13th of September 13 years back. 13 is known to be an "unlucky" number, but it definitely hasn't been for this blog. 13 courses to help learn & practice English and collecting information and compiling our activities. So here we are again... to continue.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II HAS DIED

 

This evening the death of Queen Elizabeth II has been announced. She was 96 years old. Elizabeth II (born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom from 6 February 1952 until her death. Her reign of 70 years and 214 days was the longest of any British monarch and the second longest recorded of any monarch of a sovereign country. At the time of her death, Elizabeth was Queen of 14 other Commonwealth realms apart from the UK. More info about her on Wikipedia.

The last time we talked about her on this blog was to talk about the celebration of her Platinum Jubilee commemorating 70 years of her reign, showing the video she shot with Paddington, the popular character of books and films. You can watch it again clicking here.

The picture in this posts shows her walking away with Paddington, and the photo was taken two days ago during her last public appearance in Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she had received Britain's new Prime Minister Lizz Truss.

KICKING OFF 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR

 Today is the first day of the 2022-23 school year. We've never begun so early in September as it's the first course without resit exams. So here we are back to what seems to be a "normal" course without rules or restrictions.

4ºESO GRADUATION 2022

This year, for the first time, we've had the Graduation of 4th ESO. Students and teachers gathered at the school's assembly hall this evening to celebrate the end of compulsory secondary education and also the farewell to some students who won't continue in our school. It was also the farewell toDores Castro Villar, tutor of one of the 4th year groups and Galician teacher in all of them, who now retires.

Today's is the last day of school for the 2021-22 school year.

Hard work is over, and it's time to enjoy and relax in our well-deserved summer holidays. Enjoy them, have a good time and we'll be back in September!

GRADUATION 2022

"RAFAEL DIESTE" 2nd Bac students celebrated last Friday June 10th their graduation event. A bit later that usual, as this year they waited until after the ABAU exams. But relaxed and unstressed, this time they could celebrate it once again with students, teachers and families as before to enjoy the moment.

Congratulations and all the luck for all of them in their future!

"RAFAEL DIESTE" SECOND IN THE "PASSWORD" COMPETITION

Back from this morning's "PASSWORD COMPETITION", IES "RAFAEL DIESTE" ended up 2nd. This is the final score:

1st) IES "MARÍA CASARES", Santa Cruz. 32 points.

2nd) IES "RAFAEL DIESTE", A Coruña, 27 points.

3rd) IES "ISAAC DÍAZ PARDO", Sada, 16 points.

The experience was great because we all enjoyed it very much, and for the next edition we promise to improve to be the winners.

The event also had performances, from our school it was Kamille Prainha, who sang.

Today we're off to Santa Cristina (Oleiros) to take part in the PASSWORD COMPETITION.

Twelve of our 4th ESO students:

will be competing against another dozen students from each of these two high schools "María Casares" in Bastiagueiro (Oleiros) & "Isaac Díaz Pardo" in Sada.

The competition takes place at "A Fábrica" cultural centre in Santa Cristina, Oleiros.

QUEEN ELIZABETH'S PLATINUM JUBILEE: 70 YEARS

This weekend sees the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee, which commemorates the 70th anniversary of her reign. Elizabeth, who is 96, has attended some of the celebrations.

She's even had time to do a funny video with Paddington.

SAYING GOODBYE TO KAYLEIGH

Today's the last working day for our current conversation assitant KAYLEIGH VANTASSEL. The American assistant who has been with us these last two school years 2020-21 e 2021-22.

To end her stay with us, she organized the "HOMECOMING" activities, which have brought us so much satisfaction and fun last week. 

Kayliegh, we just want to thank you for your hard work, your efforts, your vitality and kindness. We wish you all the best in your life and we'll certainly miss you, though you know where we are.

On Tuesday's break there will be a meeting with the winning teams to give the awards.

RAFAEL DIESTE'S HOMECOMING

"HOMECOMING" is an annual high school and college tradition in the United States to welcome back all the community members. It is built around a central event, most often a sporting event. When they are held at schools the activities may vary greatly. However, they often consist of activities that promote healthy competition and a sense of belonging to a community. 

Well, this year we've also celebrated a "homecoming" at the "Rafael Dieste".

The true organizer of all this event has been Kayleigh Vantassel, our conversation assistant for the last two years, who thought it was a good idea to set it up in our school. Kayleigh has put into this project a great amount of hard work, but we'll sure treasure the experience for a long time. It has also meant a lot of partnership from all the other community members: students and teacher staff. 

Students have taken part in different activities of our particular "HOMECOMING", facing the different class groups against each other in the following activities, but not only the victories and correct answers are valued, also aspects of social relationships and behaviour among them.

- BASKETBALL MATCHES:

- TALENT SHOW: students showing off their different talents.

- TRIVIA QUIZ: answering random questions in a four topic contest.

- GYMKHANA of activties

We believe that this activity has been a very good one for the whole community, especially after the time we have all been living.

Students have participated as class groups, each of them with a name, two specific colours, a pet, and a group song that represents them. Each group had a teacher and two student leaders to coordinate them. At the moment, they are working out the results to see which group has won.

But what we won't forget is the good time we've all had this morning...
